Beautiful Creatures Review

image

Oh my goodness, ya’ll. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this book. I’ve been putting off reading it for a while. I think I’ve downloaded the audio book from my library about 5 times before I actually listened to it.

Description from Goodreads:

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Thoughts:

I read a few reviews that said they didn’t like Ethan’s “voice” in the book – maybe it was because I listened to it and the guy reading it was like sex on a stick but I loved him from the moment I started listening. I loved the history behind it about the South and I loved some of the characters. Lena’s uncle, Macon, was such an interesting character and I loved every scene he was in. I totally bought into the Lena and Ethan relationship and did want the book to end even though I went back and forth between listening to and reading it so I could finish it faster.

I will be picking up the second book in the series, Beautiful Darkness, when it comes out October 12th!

In My Mailbox (3)

In my mailbox was started by The Story Siren and reviews the books that you received that week.

I got a few books this week and a couple audio books.

Audiobooks:

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

I already own these books in hardcover but I LOVED Mockingjay and thought I could get through Clockwork Angel faster by listening and reading at the same time. I got them for free through Audible since they were offering 2 through a promotion on Amazon.

Library:

Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich

Marked (Book #1 House of Night series) by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Wicked Appetite looked interested and I’ve heard good things about Evanovich. I’ve been wanting to read the House of Night series for a while so got it from the library.

In My Mailbox (2)

The idea of In My Mailbox comes from The Story Siren. Every week it gives readers a chance to post what we have received that week to read and find out what others are reading.

Library:

firelight

I heard about this book through my online book club. The author was giving away packs of promotional stuff so I emailed her to get some for the library and then the public library got the book. I grabbed it up before anyone else could but I’m going to read it this week and put it back.

Bought:

luxe

I have been wanting to read these books for a while. The covers are gorgeous! And it seems like something I would like. I found them in hardcover on clearance for $4 a piece so I scooped them up.

In My Mailbox (1)

The idea of In My Mailbox comes from The Story Siren. Every week it gives readers a chance to post what we have received that week to read and find out what others are reading. This is my first week participating and I've got lots of books!
Bought:
I am so excited about this book! I loved the Mortal Instrument series and this book is a prequel to those. I'm not very far into it but definitely should finish it this week.
From the library:

As some of you might know, I am getting my Master's in School Library Media. This year I am working at a middle school whose library is combined with the public library. I've gotta say - I LOVE my job. I love working with the public library and I LOVE the amount of books that are at my disposal. Incarceron is something I picked up on a whim. I’ve heard nothing but good things about The Forest of Hands and Teeth even though it seems like it might be a little bit scary. I might have to wait and read that on the weekend when S is home. And the last two books, Life As We Knew It and Unwind were recommended by the public librarian so I’m gonna give them a shot.

That’s it for this week! I doubt I get through all these with the class work I have to do but we shall see!
